Denis Bouriakov

Denis Bouriakov jedan je od vodećih flautističkih solista današnjice i dobitnik nagrada na najuglednijim međunarodnim natjecanjima, među kojima su Prague Spring, Nielsen, ARD München, Kobe, Rampal, Nicolet i Larrieu. Od 2015. godine djeluje kao prvi flautist Los Angeles Philharmonic orkestra, imenovan od Gustava Dudamela, a ranije je bio prvi flautist Metropolitan Opere u New Yorku pod ravnanjem Jamesa Levinea. Paralelno s orkestralnom karijerom aktivno nastupa kao solist diljem svijeta, surađujući s dirigentima poput Valeryja Gergieva, Daniela Hardinga i Gustava Dudamela.

Prepoznat po izvanrednoj virtuoznosti i muzikalnosti, Bouriakov sustavno proširuje flautistički repertoar transkripcijama violinskih koncerata i sonata te vlastitim aranžmanima, od kojih su mnogi objavljeni u izdanju Theodore Presser. Rođen u Simferopolju na Krimu, Bouriakov je kao desetogodišnjak primljen u Moskovsku središnju specijalnu školu, gdje je studirao kod Y. N. Dolzhikova. Kao mladi solist nastupao je u više od dvadeset zemalja, a zatim nastavio školovanje na Royal Academy of Music u Londonu, u klasi Williama Bennetta, OBE, koji je snažno utjecao na njegov umjetnički razvoj. Denis Bouriakov is one of the leading flute soloists of our time and a prizewinner at the most prestigious international competitions, including Prague Spring, Nielsen, ARD Munich, Kobe, Rampal, Nicolet, and Larrieu. Since 2015 he has served as Principal Flute of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, appointed by Gustavo Dudamel, and previously held the same position at the Metropolitan Opera in New York under James Levine. Alongside his orchestral career, he performs actively as a soloist worldwide, collaborating with conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Daniel Harding, and Gustavo Dudamel.

Renowned for his exceptional virtuosity and musicality, Bouriakov significantly expands the flute repertoire through his transcriptions of violin concertos and sonatas, as well as his own arrangements, many of which are published by Theodore Presser. He has released several highly acclaimed solo albums, including transcriptions of Bach’s Chaconne and Sibelius’s Violin Concerto, and his most recent project, recorded with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, features Romantic concertos reimagined for flute. He also regularly publishes live recordings of recitals and concertos on his online platforms.

Since 2017, Bouriakov has been Professor of Flute at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he teaches alongside his wife Erin. In 2018 he was appointed Visiting Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, which had previously awarded him the honorary titles of Associate (2006) and Fellow (2014). He frequently gives masterclasses at conservatories and festivals around the world and serves on the juries of major international competitions; in 2019 he chaired the woodwind jury at the prestigious XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition.

Born in Simferopol, Crimea, Bouriakov was admitted at the age of ten to the Moscow Central Special School, where he studied with Y. N. Dolzhikov. As a young soloist he toured more than twenty countries before continuing his education at the Royal Academy of Music in London, studying with William Bennett, OBE, who had a profound influence on his artistic development. Before moving to the United States, he served as Principal Flute of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland and of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra.
